Name: Kevin Young
Age: 38
Gender: Male
Occupation: A part-time janitor at Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.
Personality: Kevin is a good natured man, well liked by his students and his colleagues. He is an English Literature Professor and a researcher in the field of infectious diseases. He has published a number of books in the latter, and to satisfy the literary addiction that constantly eats at him he succumbed to the trap all middle-aged men with an affinity for knowledge find themselves in: he is writing a novel. He is friendly and open, willing to answer any question proposed to him if he gets an equal amount of honesty in return. He interacts with people in the same way that he does his students, always searching for something to teach them while, at the same time, striving to learn from them.
He is fascinated with the human condition, and finds himself people watching more often than not. It is in his nature to explore the minds of the strangers he passes, imagining the world around him through their eyes, and developing rational, yet somehow ethereal, explanations as to why they do what they are accustomed to doing. His tolerance for the bad side of human nature is deep and strong, yet he cannot deal with stupid or ignorant people with even a small level of patience. When he is with his students, however, this flaw in his personality is absent. They are sacred to him, vessels ripe for the acquisition of knowledge, and he treats each student with the respect and care they deserve.
Less philosophically, Kevin is an easy guy to get along with. He believed in comedy, and constantly digs for laughter. He has a biting wit, and knows how to wield it with a weapon’s accuracy when he needs to. More often than not, however, he’s too laid back to really care what people are saying about him. He is a good listener and a faithful friend. He has an unquenchable thirst for learning, and deems himself a professional student, as well as a teacher and researcher.
Appearance: Kevin stands an even six feet tall, his hair shaved short, a bald patch forming on the back of his head betraying his age. He has a classically handsome face. The strong, round lines of his cheeks and chin ease into almost pointed ears and his nose, while some might consider it a bit large, accents his face perfectly. When he smiles his cheeks dimple and the edges of his eyes crinkle endearingly. He has a contagious smile, which he is more than happy to share. His high forehead is made more noticeable by his receding hairline.
He is built physically well, muscular without being bulky: trim but solid. He works out every day, not because he has to, or even because he wants to, but simply because it was part of his routine and he could not remove it. His face is finely set, his skin clear, his hair soft and fluffy. His hands are large, with elegant fingers often described as a Pianists hand. He can normally be found wearing old khaki pants and a garish Hawaiian shirt.
History: Kevin was raised in a loving, emotionally stable home. His mother was married and divorced, then remarried. His step-dad is a good man, who loves his mother unconditionally. He has a younger sister, a professional diver exploring the waters in Australia. He also has a wife, Sara, and a fifteen year old son, Trevor. Trevor suffered from a torturous ear disorder that a doctor misdiagnosed as an infection, which left the young boy deaf at a very early age. Kevin worked as a substitute teacher before finding his current position at his college, and before that he worked in a forensic lab at a police station.
He took up the job as a Janitor to stay close to the medical, scientific world he loves so much. He finds that the hospital is the best place to watch people, to learn about them and delve deeper into the psyche. Sick people, worried people, people blessed by miracles: these are the kind that fascinate him, and these are the kind that he cannot find wandering in the park, or at the local bar. He respects the work that is carried out in the hospital with the highest regard, and imagines that, simply because he cleans the place where lives are saved, he is somehow a part of that majestic world.
Other: He was once accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. The rumors still hover over him. His marriage is not as stable as he would have everyone believe. And, despite his great personality, there is something slightly off about him. Only time and deep conversations brings this part out in him, though.
