Original Character Audition
Name: Laylani Jayci Thomus [Usually goes by Lani, but also gets called 'Thomus' or 'LJ']
Age: 29
Gender: Female
Occupation: Head of Pediatrics i.e. Doctor
Personality: Lani is the type of girl everyone thinks they know all about. They think she’s a mellow person, someone who stay’s inside the square. But just as soon as people begin to get comfy with their little perception of her, she goes and does something off-the-wall. She really is a horribly calm person, most of the time, but she gets to these points sometimes where she’ll just have a severe mood swing. This leads a lot of people into thinking she’s schizophrenic, though that’s just not true. She just has a complicated personality. She’s smart, not one of those bitchy “I know more than yoooou do” people, but intelligent enough to know what she’s talking about.
Lani’s got street smarts, and has experienced things that scarred her when she was little. Psychiatry helped her a bit, but she still winces when someone raises a hand to her or yells. Her childhood, from where children start to remember things, was shitty, causing some major defects in her personality. She has a severe dislike of little emo kids who cut their wrists because mommy and daddy say ‘no’ and she’s not afraid to stand for what she believes in. She does love to have a battle of wits with people who can take it, and she can be amazingly snarky when she feels like it. Her grandmother’s influence in her life has helped her to become a better person, and helped her not to turn out like her mother did.
She works with kids, so it’s not like she smokes, parties, and drinks all the time. She doesn’t smoke at all but she does have an occasional drink, and she also goes to a party or two on the weekends. She has a problem with men, thanks to her experiences as a child, but she’s working through it and knows not all of them are pigs. Just some. She’s not afraid to flirt with guys, though she rarely goes on dates or opens up to any of them. And she’ll never hit on someone if she knows they're taken. Lani believes there is a God, and she also believes there’s magic in the world. She’s always got a pack of Tarot Cards on her, and will read out your future, sometimes just to watch peoples reaction to their fortune.
Lastly, she loves kids. More than anything, she wants to help them. Lani has a very tough heart, great for her current job, but it turns to mush when she’s with “her” kids. The Pediatrics ward is like a second home to her, and she’d feel pretty much lost without it. She fights to save the children that come to her, and overlooking details is not an option when it comes to the kids. She’ll rag your ass if you try to tell her she’s spending too much time in there, because there’s no such thing to her. If you stay on Laylani’s good side, which is incredibly easy, then you should have a blast with her. If you get on her bad side…well…sucks for you. Cause believe it or not, that sweet face hides the bitch within.

History: Born in New York on February 13, Lani lived with her mother and Grandmère for most of her beginning years. What she remembers of her childhood consists of memories found after her Grandmère told her of them. She’d locked a great deal away when she was a kid.
Any who, Lani and her mother lived in the Bennington Manor, or as she likes to call it, Big Ben. When Lani was 6, her mother met a man named Chris. He was a cool guy, always taking her and her mother out, and buying Kayti, Lani’s mom, presents. But Grandmère Millicent (Lani didn’t dare call her Grandma Millie) hated him from the start. And she didn’t usually dislike people without getting to know them. Before long, wedding plans were being made. Millicent told her daughter that if she married that man, then they would get no help from her and she’d cut Kayti out of everything. Chris and Kayti married none the less and moved off to California. But when Chris found out there would be no inheritance for them when Millicent died, things spiraled drastically.
I wasn’t long before fighting became a daily thing for Lani’s mother and step-father, and the little girl would grab the phone and curl up in her room with the door locked. Her Grandmère would always comfort her over the phone and sing her to sleep, and Lani savored that affection. Chris began to drink, after a while, and he soon became abusive to Lani’s mother. Then just a short time later, to Lani. Kayti didn’t know about her daughters’ abuse, and she didn’t want to crawl back to her mother just because she was getting tossed around. He’d told Lani that he’d kill Millicent if she told anyone, and how could the little child know her Grandmère was so protected that even the Secret Service couldn’t get to her? It was only after she went to school with horrible bruises that Kayti left Chris.
Laylani and Kayti lived on the streets and in various shelters for a long while, before her mother finally came home with enough money to rent them a house. Though, the little rat infested hole-in-the-wall didn’t even deserve the title. At 8, Lani began to see her mother head downhill. She’d bring home these men, sometimes 5 or 6 different ones each day. They’d all make little remarks to Kayti about how her cute little daughter should join in the fun, and her mother would do nothing but giggle at their comments and lead them away to her room, where they’d stay for hours. Lani usually spent her days outside the house, practically living at the broken-down playground across the street. This happened with her mother for so long, that Lani began to think it was normal for mothers to do this. It was only when she caught her mother using drugs that Lani knew something was wrong.
She called her Grandmère, who she hadn’t seen since she was little, and asked her about all the things her mother was doing. Millicent promised she’d come visit very soon, and not a day later she was on their doorstep with a whole posse of people. This “posse” consisted of various Lawyers, police, CPS workers, and other people who drew up the necessary documents to strip Kayti of her parental rights and give Millicent full custody of Laylani. They put Kayti in rehab, and then Lani was taken back to Big Ben for her new life. Now 12, Lani was pretty much scarred, and had to see a psychiatrist for a long time, but it helped her. Her Grandmère sent her to the best junior high tint the state, and then the best high school.
By college, Millicent had made sure that Lani knew how to take care of herself and earn her own money. She only assisted a tiny bit in paying for college. Laylani wanted to help children right from the start, wanted to help kids have a better life. She thought about becoming a teacher for a short time, but after researching things, she decided she ultimately wanted to cure children. After 11 long years of college, interning and finally, residency, she finally walked away with her degree in Pediatrics, along with another in Intensive Care.
Her search for a job took her to PPTH, where after taking a good look at her resume and a great word from Bennington Enterprises; she got the job as Head of Pediatrics. Now, a week or two after getting the job, everything’s beginning to settle and the last of her required paperwork is going out. This is allowing her to finally venture out of her office.
