House MD Canon Character Application
Name: Robert Chase
Position at PPTH: Duckling of Gregory House, specialization of intensivist.
Personality: Chase will work hard to get what he wants and will do almost anything to hold onto it when he has it. Such as his job, he would do anything to keep. Chase takes a great pleasure in working under House, liking the older man and taking amusement even at his crudest jokes. He often suggests unconventional treatments before the others, showing a more intuitive sense with medicine. Chase likes the younger crowd and will indulge them much more than regular patients, trying to make them feel better, he genuinely cares about them. Not that he doesn't care about the older patients, but he will poke fun at them, only behind their backs, unlike House who does it to their faces. When it comes to his personal life or anything to do with his family, he completely closes off even though he usually has a fairly friendly air to him.
Appearance: Chase is 5"10' and has a fairly lithe form, neither muscular or overly slim. His blond hair usually falls to around his ears and into his blue-green eyes.
History: Chase is from Australia and grew up with his mother and father while he attended seminary school. Though when he father left his mother and him when he was 15, he dropped out and spent most of his time attending school while trying to take care of his mother who had turned to alcohol to drown her sorrows. When he had already turned 19 and was going to college, she died, leaving him rather alone due to the fact his father never bothered to visit him, although it's apparent that he remarried. Once Chase graduated from medical school to become a doctor (something it seemed his father wanted, not him), his father supposedly called House to get him the job. Considering their relationship and the fact House is the one who supplied the information, however, I believe Chase's father called to tell House -not- to hire his son, or he didn't call at all. Either way, Chase was hired and worked for House for a good year before Cameron and then Foreman joined the team.
Other: He apparently is 'not so ignorant to think we are alone in the universe' - aka, believes in aliens.
Roleplay Sample: One of the best things about being early to work was the fact that you were the one to make the coffee. This was nothing something that Doctor Robert Chase took lightly. Certain members of their team, who shall remain nameless, don't seem to understand the very subtle art of brewing a cuppa worth drinking. Chase prided himself on this skill and therefore was delighted to see that once again he was the first one into the Diagnostics room, despite the fact it was rather late in the morning.
Not bothering to stop and contemplate where his fellow...fellows might be, or their fearless leader, Chase made his way directly to the coffee pot to work the magic.
As he made the coffee, Chase thought over the previous day. It had been...stressful, to say the least. The usually high demand of a pressing case while House ran as wild and unchecked as ever, doing anything and everything to save the patient. However, yesterday it had all payed off, House had solved the case and they all went home happy.
Yet this was another day, and with it came likely another case. Unless he was lucky and granted a reprieve from this job and allowed to go down to the NICU or some other location to work.
With a sigh, Chase turned away from the coffee maker and pulled out a chair at the table. As he sat Chase pulled out a pen from his pocket and the latest medical crossword puzzle from his bag. Bringing the pen automatically up to his lips to chew on it, his eyes perused the puzzle. He hoped that this would be it until the coffee was done and he would leave to do clinic hours or to the ICU.
Yes, of course Chase loved his job. But sometimes it could be too much, even for him.
It was after quite a while of filling in the puzzle and inhaling the fresh scent of coffee, that Chase put his things away once more and got to his feet. He wasn't sure why, but he had a feeling if he stayed here any longer, the others would come in.
Walking back over to the coffeemaker, he poured himself a fresh cup before heading back out the door and to the cafeteria. It was usually fairly empty there in the mornings and this morning did not disappoint. Sliding into a seat, Chase relaxed more fully, taking a deep sip of the coffee and pulling his crossword puzzles back out again, feeling much more comfortable here than back in diagnostics.
