Original Character Audition
Name:
Jayme Montgomery
Age:
21
Gender:
Female
Occupation:
Patient
Personality:
A bit cool and sarcastic when you first meet her, Jayme tends to need time to get comfortable in new situations. If you're very lucky, after a little while, she'll get comfortable and treat you like a normal person would. But, sometimes, she just keeps on with her sarcastic nature. It's not that she's trying to be rude or anything like that, she just finds some people impossible to get along with. Jayme is a bit of a tomboy, preferring to tinker with cars than figure out how to apply mascara without having it clump.
Appearance:
Bright blue eyes will peer intensely at you from behind a layered curtain of light blonde hair. Her hair, at its longest, brushes gently against her shoulders. She’s taken great care to stay in good shape due to the Juvenile Diabetes she’s lived with from age nine. So, eating healthy and daily exercise has helped keep her body toned and slim. She has more of an oval-shaped face, which pronounces her cheekbones slightly more than normal. She stands roughly at 5’8”.
History:
What sort of birthday gift is a diagnosis of Juvenile Diabetes? Jayme won’t hesitate to tell you that her 9th birthday was the worst. After all, how much fun can it be to be rushed to the hospital just because you had some cake and pop at your own party? But, with skyrocketing blood sugars, Jayme was in bad shape. She wound up spending four days in the hospital after that incident. From that day forward it was blood tests and insulin injections, healthy food and diet sodas.
On her 18th birthday, Jayme’s parents gave her own car. It wasn’t in the best of shape, but it suited her perfectly as it allowed her to play around and fix it up herself. Jayme loves her Dodge Charger, even if it’s getting to be a bit of a hassle to upkeep. It was her first car, and she’s not ready to let go of it just yet.
After graduation, Jayme went to community college and took a mechanics course. Then, she moved out here and is currently seeking a job.

Cue the background sound, if you would be so kind. A summer rainstorm, please, hold the thunder and lightning. Excellent, just lovely, thank-you.
Fade into the first angle from black....... now. Pan across the empty street as the rain bounces off of it, if you would. Lovely. Be sure to catch the very empty looking houses and softly glowing streetlights. Perfection.
Now, as the soft, sad notes of the piano begin the back song, perhaps we could up the rainfall a bit? Just a little more? Beautiful.
Ah, the mood is set, the stage is ready. Now, for the scene to begin. Places everyone. And....... action.......

{A tide within your heart}
{Keeps rising in the dark}
{Surrounds you like an ocean}
{And you can’t keep from going under}
“How could you?!” she shrieked, breaking free of his iron grip and bolting for the open door and out into the rain.
“Jess! Wait!” her father called, running after her, but stopping in the doorway.
His calls fell on deaf ears. All Jessie Wright could hear was the revving engine of her boyfriend’s truck. Oblivious to the sharp stones beneath her bare feet, she followed him as he pulled out of the drive and into the street, all the while, tires spinning and spitting gravel.
{Somewhere in the deep}
{I find you half asleep}
{’Cause I will never leave you}
{I will not forsake you}
As the truck hesitated in the street, its gears grinding and groaning in an unhealthy manner, Jessie pounded on his window. Tears of pain and desperation streamed down her face, mixing with the rain. “Don’t go!” she begged, “Please!”
The rivulets of rainwater on the window distorted his face, so his expression was unreadable. With a jerk, the truck pulled away, tires spinning on the slick surface. Jessie jumped back, pain stabbing through her heart. She let her hand fall as her heart went numb. “Please,” she whispered.
{I will stay}
{Here with you while you fall}
{I won’t say}
{Anything, anything at all}
{I will stay}
She was torn. Part of her wanted to sink to the rain soaked street, sobbing. Another part wanted to just die. And yet another part wanted to run after him. But, deep inside, Jessie knew that none of those ‘options’ would do any real good.
“Jessie?”
Her father’s voice cut through her whirling thoughts like a hot poker through snow. Then, somewhere deep beneath her sorrow, anger prickled. She turned to face her father, who stood huddled against the cold in the doorway, bathed in the soft light from inside. Regret lined his features, and he looked almost lost. As she watched him, Jessie felt the anger grow until it burned white-hot behind her dark brown eyes.
“Jessie, honey, I’m so sorry,” her father stammered apologetically, “I didn’t think this would happen.”
{When all the empty words}
{Won’t take away the hurt}
{When everything is broken}
{All the wounds are open}
Jessie raked a hand through her brown hair, the blonde streaks darkened to match by the rain. “How could it have gone any differently?!” she demanded, “You drove him away! You walked in on us while we were talking and told him outright that he wasn’t welcome here! Then you told him that he wasn’t allowed to see me anymore! You complete bastard! I’ve known him literally all my life!”
An angry flush coloured her father’s face. “You’re only sixteen, damn it!” he yelled, “You don’t need a boyfriend! Wait until you’re old enough to recognize what boys really want from you, Jessie!”
Jessie laughed coldly, in utter disbelief. “Get with the times, Roy,” she said coolly, “I’m about four months away from being eighteen. I know what boys want at this age, but he’s not like that. Mom understood that and had no problem with our being together for the past three years. Just back off, Roy! You left us when I was six; you’re no part of my life. You have no say in what I do.”
{I’ll be here}
{A shoulder you can cry on}
{A friend you can rely on}
{In between the shadows}
{Where no one else will follow}
Before Roy could respond, Jessie pushed past him and went to her room. She slammed the door behind her and locked it. She let her gaze sweep the room sadly. She moved to her bureau where all her pictures were lined up. There were a few of her when her parents were together and she was quite young. He was in some of those photos. Even back then they had been best friends. After her dad had left and the divorce had gone through, there was a long span of pictures of just Jessie and her mom, Elaine. Of course, he was a few of those too. Then, the last few showed just him and Jessie as they had come together.
There were no recent photos. There couldn’t be. Closing her eyes, Jessie could still remember the day that phone call had come. The ice, the 18-wheeler, the snow. There was no chance of anyone surviving it. Forced to move back in with Roy, Jessie had resented the sudden attention she got from her father. But, he had been there through it all. The divorce, the accident, the move. He had been there and he had helped her through it all. And now Roy had driven him off. Possibly forever.
{I will stay}
{Here with you while you fall}
{I won’t say}
{Anything, anything at all}
With a soft sigh, Jessie reached for her phone. She dialed his home number. As it rang continuously, she prayed he would pick up. But, the answering machine kicked in. “Hey,” she said softly, “If you’re there, please pick up the phone. I am so sorry about what happened. I really am. I really think we need to talk about this. Please, please call me. I love you so much and I don’t know what I’d do without you. I love you....”
With a soft sigh, Jessie hung up the phone, the bottom of her stomach dropping out. All she could think of were the wet roads and...... No. She was being ridiculous. He was a good driver and knew how to handle even the worst storms. All she could do was wait......
